You know when you’re scrolling through your favourite influencer’s Insta feed, admiring all of their ridiculously beautiful, #LifeGoals inducing pictures, when you suddenly come across an out of place snap of a detox tea/ mysterious juice labelled with the hashtag #Spon? Yeah, that.

Well a new report released this week has given us some insight into the business of sponsored posting, revealing just how much our favourite reality stars, celebrities and bloggers can earn each time they endorse a product on Instagram.

The world of #Spon (#Ad, #Collab, #Whatever) has long been a murky one, where big brands pay big money to people with big followings to feature their products in their Insta feeds. It’s a step beyond your average endorsement deal, as the featured products are peppered organically into the influencer’s feed and so the ad is supposed to be seen as a natural part of the celebrity’s lifestyle, just as, say, that picture they posted of their avocado toast this morning.

So just how big are the pound signs, potentially? Well, according to the Insta Index, a report created by Dr Mariann Hardey for Takumi, a small influencer with between 1,000 and 20,000 followers could command up to £255 per post. Do that twice a week for a year, and they’re looking at over £26,500 in annual earnings. Not bad for a twenty second, snap and send job, is it?

And what about the bigger fish? Those with 20,000- 50,000 followers? Well according to the study, the averages triple, with up to £750 being paid per post, fetching £78,000 for an annual sponsorship deal.

Major influencers, naturally, are able to command even more. Yup, those with more than 100,000 followers instantly access new levels of Insta-riches, and can apparently charge more than £1,500 per post, raking in over £156,000 per year.

So a good fashion blogger, with 200,000 followers, might be topping up their income by £300,000 per year via Insta deals. And your average Geordie Shore star, with around 700,000 followers, could be asking for £10,500 every single time they post about their new favourite slimming tea.

We don't dare even do the maths for Kim Kardashian who, with 79.2 million followers, must be laughing all the way to the bank…
